Saying- How Is It?
There are some phrases we hear often in English that difficult to understand what they are saying if you are not living in this country. That is called idioms or saying. People usually convey their implications or thoughts in indirect way by idiom or saying. Let’s consider what and how is it.
First of all, in order to make clear about sayings, you need to experience. People prefer to talk in a short but full of meaning way, they use saying . Saying usually consists 2 elements, one is mention directly current things , objects or matter , another is talk about hidden ideas which related to what people want you to know. Let’s see a romantic example of the saying : “ you are the apple in my eyes” . Actually people in non-speaking English countries might find difficult to understand its meaning. In fact, it refers to something or someone who love above all other and it came from an old story in England history.. In long times ago, people did not know the real shape of heart , the apple was representative for the heart by the same red colour , they thought that its form might similar to the apple, so that, if say “ you are the apple in my eyes” means “you are my heart and the only one in my eyes” . That’s why the learners need to seek about saying for both expand their vocabulary and know about the its culture.
In some ways, using sayings might be a friendly and close way to talk with each other. Let’s see a usual example of saying :” keep an eye on” . That means look after something or someone. If someone said to you : “ Can you keep an eye on our baby ” , it is a gentle reminder instead of “Please look out of her carefully”
Another interesting example is a saying : “ no sweat” . It means very easy to perform. That has an enormous link between the meaning and the words. Obviously, if you do a heavy work, you will be sweated, by contrast, doing easy business seems to be very trouble-free to complete without sweat.
